Teaching

Learning to play an instrument can be one of the most engaging and rewarding experiences, and as a teacher I enjoy helping to foster a love of music in others.

I’m used to adapting lessons to suit each student, making them engaging and inspiring, and I really see the benefits of encouragement and praise in enabling students to reach their potential.

Pupils range from absolute beginners through to advanced levels, I teach privately and in schools and my students have a 100% pass rate for ABRSM exams. I’ve held the Oboe Tutor position at Hackney Youth Orchestra Trust since 2008, and coach the woodwind section at Enfield Youth Symphony Orchestra each week during term time.

Private lessons take place at my home in SE London, at pupil’s homes, and online. I have a fully enhanced DBS certificate, and have attended recent child protection training.

Whether you’re a parent interested in lessons for your child or an adult pursuing an engaging and interesting hobby, I’m always open to enquiries from new pupils so do get in touch!

Testimonials -

‘I was a bit concerned about learning to play the oboe as a (very) mature beginner, but Emily has tailored her teaching to fit my age and musical tastes. I enjoy our lessons very much - in fact they’re the highlight of my week! I’m making good progress and now play in an amateur orchestra which is what I’d always dreamed of.’ - Suzie

"Emily is talented, kind, patient and with a great sense of humour. She is incredibly knowledgeable about playing and caring about her students. I feel incredibly lucky to have someone of her talent and character guiding us in our musical journey. I could not recommend her highly enough." - Mirela
